Suhayla El-Bushra

Suhayla is an experienced playwright and screenwriter, with an MA in Screenwriting.

She was a core writer on Channel 4’s Hollyoaks, writing 26 of its episodes over a two-year period and contributing ideas to many more in the writers’ room. She has also written episodes for Doctors and Ackley Bridge, and in 2017, she made a short film with Film4/Neon Films, entitled Bush.

Her recent stage work includes Arabian Nights (Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh), Cuckoo (Unicorn Theatre), The Iphigenia Quartet (the Gate Theatre, London), The Kilburn Passion (the Tricycle Theatre), Pigeons (the Royal Court Theatre) and The Suicide (the National Theatre). She is currently under commission from the English Touring Theatre, the National Theatre, the Bridge Theatre and Chichester Festival Theatre.

She is currently developing television projects with Lime Pictures, Neon Films and Red Production Company.
