As a writer, Faryal’s inspiration comes from the rich multicultural tapestry of British life and campaigns for social justice. She aspires for her work to speak with a powerful and original voice, which can discover humour in even the darkest of places.
Faryal was part of the writers’ room that produced season two and the forthcoming season three of Ackley Bridge (The Forge/Channel 4). She was also recently commissioned by the BBC to write a 90-minute original drama, Take Me Home, which is centred on the housing crisis in London. She is developing a returning television series with Kudos, and a feature film project set in Brixton, with Fable Pictures.
In 2018, Faryal worked on the writing and development of two young adult shows, We Never Sleep and Chemistry, with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s production company, Stolen Pictures.
Her 2011 short film What You Looking At?, which she wrote and directed, was shown at 20 film festivals around the world. It was supported by Film London and distributed by Peccadillo Pictures.
