Jay Pinak Oza | Cinematographer

Growing up in Baroda, India, Jay was naturally curious and passionate. After majoring in art history and aesthetics, he ventured into working as a set PA, learning the ropes and trying his hand at everything. Spending so much time on set gave him the foundation he needed and he found that he loved telling stories using the camera as a medium. He moved on to working in features as an assistant director and as a production assistant for a reality series. Jay discovered a natural inclination towards cinematography and tried to move into the camera department but faced difficulties because of a lack of a film degree. This prompted him to gain the technical know-how he needed by going to film school. After completing his film degree from Prague Film School, Jay returned to India and found work soon after as an assistant director with Ayananke Bose and Shudeep Chatterjee in several projects. 

Jay made his debut as an independent cinematographer on the sets of the Dewarist. Since then it’s been a fantastic journey of working in the industry for 9 years and building a career telling stories that matter. From Raman Raghav 2.0, Blackmail, Made in Heaven, Ghoul to most recently Gully Boy, Jay’s work has received critical acclaim. Toofan for Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra is due release in May 2021.
