Sunday 8 March: To celebrate International Woman’s Day, BAFTA is calling for women from all over the UK to enter a unique opportunity to speak to stars of the entertainment industry. BAFTA Connects is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for 19 aspiring female creatives, looking to build a career in film, games or television.
Ever wondered what goes into making a BAFTA-winning film, been inspired by the costumes in Killing Eve, or questioned what it takes to star in a Netflix drama? Well now is the chance to find out as BAFTA is offering the chance for women hoping to carve a career in the screen industries to gain advice from leading industry women.
All elements of BAFTA Connects can be done remotely from your home. The application requires a short video, and successful applicants will be able to speak to the talent either via a phone or video call.
The star-studded list of women on-hand to offer tips and guidance include:
- Sandy Powell- costume designer (The Irishman, The Young Victoria)
- Aisling Bea- screenwriter and actor (This Way Up, Living With Yourself, The Fall)
- Laurie Nunn- screenwriter (Sex Education)
- Delyth Thomas – director (Victoria, The Worst Witch, The Story of Tracey Beaker)
- Amanda Mealing- actor and director (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Casualty, The Dumping Ground)
- Coco Jackson- television producer (Dancing on Ice, The Voice)
- Adrienne Law – games producer (Monument Valley 2, Assemble with Care)
- Phoebe De Gaye – costume designer (Killing Eve, The Spanish Princess)
- Barbara Broccoli – film producer (James Bond series, Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool, The Rhythm Section)
- Nainita Desai – composer (For Sama, The Royal Wedding: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle)
- Elizabeth Karlsen – film producer (Carol, Collette, On Chesil Beach)
- Daisy May Cooper- screenwriter and actor (This Country, The Personal History of David Copperfield)
- Edith Bowman- broadcaster (Glastonbury, Saving Planet Earth, The Vue Film Show)
- Lindy Hemming- costume designer ( Paddington 1 & 2, Wonder Woman)
- Pippa Harris – film and television producer (1917, Call the Midwife, The Hollow Crown, Revolutionary Road)
- Arianne Philips- costume designer (Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood, A Single Man, Walk The Line)
- Pippa Bennett-Warner- actress (Johnny English Strikes Again, Harlots, World of War Craft)
- Stella Corradi- director (Through the Gates, Little Soldier, Sitting in Limbo, Trigonometry )
- Jo Twist- CEO of Ukie, UK’s games and interactive entertainment industry trade body

The successful entrants will be matched to the leading women by BAFTA, and have the chance to speak to them over either a phone or video call, where they can gain industry insight and advice to further their careers. - What do you love about film, games or television?
- What is your ideal role in the industry and why?
Production value will not be a factor in selection, and videos can be recorded on any device.
Applications are now open and will close on Thursday 16th April at 10am.
