Tyrell Williams

Tyrell Williams is an award-winning writer and director for theatre, film and television. He graduated from Middlesex University with a first-class degree in Creative Writing and Journalism. 

In 2015, Tyrell co-created, co-wrote and directed a viral web series #HoodDocumentary, which has had more than 4 million views on YouTube. Following its online acclaim, it was commissioned by BBC Three, which Tyrell also co-wrote and directed. 

In 2022, Tyrell’s original play, Red Pitch, directed by Daniel Bailey, completed a sold-out run and earned him a George Devine Award for Best New Writing, a Stage Debut Award for Best Writer, a Critics’ Circle Theatre award and an Evening Standard award for most promising playwright. Red Pitch was also awarded Best New Play at the OffWestEnd Awards (The Offies) in 2023. The Guardian noted: “Tackling gentrification, change and ambition, Tyrell Williams’s writing creates a convincing bond in a play that is fierce, affectionate and effortlessly funny.” 

Tyrell was named as one of Deadline’s ‘Five Rising Writers to Watch Out For in 2023’. He is currently on attachment to the National Theatre Studio.
