Londoner Yann Demange presented his film ’71 at a Brits to Watch screening New York. Having been nominated for multiple BAFTA Television and Television Craft Awards, ’71 was Demange’s first foray into film. The film premiered at Berlin International Film Festival and traveled to several prestigious festivals. At thr British Acadmey Film Awards in 2015 the film was nominated for Outstanding British Film and Demange nominated for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer.
’71 takes place over a single night in the life of a young British soldier played by Jack O’Connell accidentally abandoned by his unit following a riot on the streets of Belfast in 1971. Unable to tell friend from foe, and increasingly wary of his own comrades, he must survive the night alone and find his way to safety through a disorientating, alien and deadly landscape.
