Rahab McQueen, 28, from North London, is awarded the BAFTA Reuben Scholarship to study Model Making for Animation at the National Film and Television School. Rahab’s passion for film and animation began at a young age. While studying for her A-Levels, she participated in the BFI Film Academy Animation Residential and the BFI Film Academy Craft Skills, delivered by the NFTS, which solidified her interest in the field. She went on to earn a BA in Concept Art for Games and Animation at Teesside University.

After graduating, Rahab gained experience in a variety of creative roles, including festival assistant, production runner, and 2D character designer. However, it was freelancing on a series of animated commercials that ignited her interest in the stop-motion industry. Eager to deepen her skills, she returned to the NFTS, where she volunteered on several graduate films, assisting with prop-making and set-building. This hands-on work allowed her to combine her skills in concept creation, worldbuilding, and draughtsmanship with practical crafting, cementing her desire to pursue a career in model making.

Studying at the NFTS will provide Rahab with access to specialist equipment, enabling her to broaden her understanding of model-making techniques and develop the technical skills necessary for success in the industry.

“To study at the NFTS has been a dream of mine since I attended a BFI Film Academy there 10 years ago. Receiving the BAFTA Scholarship has made this dream possible. Alongside relieving the financial burden of studying at such a prestigious institution, the mentoring and networking opportunities offered with the BAFTA Scholarship will provide valuable experience and help me to stand out in such a niche and competitive industry.”
