The popular nationwide search for local film heroes returns, recognising individuals from across the country who have made a difference to their communities simply ‘For the Love of Film’
EE BAFTA Film Awards Red Carpet host AJ Odudu lends her support to the search, with the chosen recipient getting the opportunity to attend the EE British Academy Film Awards 2022 on Sunday 13 March.
BAFTA and EE want to celebrate members of the public who bring their love of film to the nation! Communities have relied on local heroes more than ever over the course of the last two years and BAFTA and EE want to recognise those that have supported their neighbours and community through film. Did you fight to save your local cinema from closure? Has someone set up a film festival in your local community? Have you taken the joy of film to those in need? Or have you been managing a cinema for an extraordinary length of time? We’re looking to celebrate exceptional individuals who have gone to great lengths to share their passion during these difficult times.
Entries for this year’s competition are now open at https://www.bafta.org/film/awards/ftlof-2022 with the deadline for submissions Friday 11 February at 10:00am GMT.
TV Presenter AJ Odudu, who was recently announced as red-carpet co-host at the EE British Academy Film Awards 2022 has lent her support to this year’s campaign, highlights the importance of local cinemas and communities to the film industry.
“I am so excited to work with BAFTA to showcase and celebrate the fantastic people that have been working to bring the joy of film to their local communities, as well as supporting the UK film industry over the last couple of years. I cannot wait to meet the winner on the red-carpet at the EE BAFTA Film Awards!”

The entrants will be considered by a panel of leading industry experts and the chosen recipient will get the opportunity to join BAFTA for a memorable evening at the UK’s biggest celebration of film. The prize includes an overnight stay in London, as well as professional hair and makeup ahead of the EE British Academy Film Awards on Sunday 13 March 2022.
Previous ‘For the Love of Film’ competitions have honoured Janet Dunn and Martin Fol who fund and operate Liverpool’s Plaza Cinema, Lizzie Banks the producer of Oska Bright Film Festival, as well as Dan Ellis, Founder and Managing Director of Jam Jar Cinema and Iain MacColl, Senior Operator, Screen Machine. The EE British Academy Film Awards take place on Sunday 13 March. The ceremony, celebrating the very best of British and international film talent, will be returning to London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall, and broadcast on BBC One, BBC One HD and BBC iPlayer. On the night, www.bafta.org will feature red carpet highlights, photography and winner’s interviews, as well as dedicated coverage on its social channels @BAFTA.
As previously announced, nominations for the EE British Academy Film Awards will be revealed on Thursday 3 February 2022, following the EE Rising Star nominations on Tuesday 1 February 2022.
