London, Wednesday 6 November: The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has today announced that triple BAFTA-winning and double Oscar-winning actress and screenwriter Emma Thompson will be discussing her craft and career at a ‘BAFTA A Life In Pictures’ event on Sunday 24 November. The event, sponsored by Deutsche Bank, will take place at BAFTA’s headquarters, 195 Piccadilly in London.
‘BAFTA A Life In Pictures’ is a long-running series of onstage interviews in which some of the film world’s leading talent discuss their life and career and share insights into the experiences that helped them hone and develop their crafts. The series has hosted leading names including Dustin Hoffman, Martin Scorsese, Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Kenneth Branagh and Helen Mirren.
Emma Thompson is a multi-award-winning actress of stage and screen, whose career to date has spanned over thirty years. She received her first BAFTA at the British Academy Television Awards in 1988 for her work on Tutti Frutti and Fortunes of War, and gained a British Academy Film Award in 1993 for her performance in Howards End, for which she was also awarded her first Oscar and Golden Globe.
In 1996 Emma Thompson took home her third BAFTA for Best Actress for Sense and Sensibility, and her BAFTA-nominated script for the film also earned her the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay and a second Golden Globe. She was also BAFTA-nominated for her roles in The Remains of the Day and Love Actually, and won an Emmy for her performance on Ellen in 1998.
In 2010, Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, which was written, produced and starred Emma Thompson, was nominated for a British Academy Children’s Award for Best Feature Film. She plays Mary Poppins author P. L. Travers in the film Saving Mr. Banks, which closed this year’s London Film Festival, and opens in the UK on 29 November.
‘BAFTA A Life in Pictures: Emma Thompson’ will be recorded for BAFTA Guru, BAFTA’s online learning channel (www.bafta.org/guru). Recordings of previous ‘BAFTA A Life In Pictures’ events can also be found on the site.
