Active from the late 1940s, Laven worked extensively under the banner of his company Levy Gardner Laven Productions. He directed movies including Sam Whiskey (1969), producing others such as Clambake (1967) and The Scalphunters (1968), with The Rifleman (1959-63) and The Big Valley (1965-67) among the television series he oversaw.
