A skills development panel, Reaching the Next Level, was especially held for games Connect members on the 17th of April 2023.
Speakers shared insights on the vital, non-development skills required to thrive as a future leader in the games industry.
BAFTA Connect is a new UK-wide and North America tier of membership forming part of BAFTA’s ongoing mission to strengthen support for future creative leaders in the film, games and television industries. It Is aimed at emerging and mid-level stages of screen sector professionals and includes access to BAFTA’s year-round programme of events as well as additional tailored career development activity.
Reaching the Next Level featured a panel hosted by Adam Campbell (Program Manager at Amazon Games and co-founder of POC in Play) and speakers Jon Torrens (Communication Coach), Mel Phillips (Games Leadership Network), Ben Penrose (Maverick Games) and Mikayla Sinead (Bridge Network Group).
Throughout the panel, speakers provided advice and insights on how to be a successful and empathetic leader from a variety of angles – from improving communication skills and confidence to understanding the difference between leadership and management styles.
Afterwards, Connect members were invited for networking afterwards with non-alcohol drinks and ice breaker questions provided.
