Sunday, 19 November 2023, Glasgow: The winners of the BAFTA Scotland Awards 2023 have been announced this evening at a special ceremony at the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Central in Glasgow, hosted by presenter Edith Bowman. The BAFTA Scotland Awards honour excellence and celebrate talent across Scotland’s screen industries.
Mayflies received the award for Television Scripted, and Winners for Feature Film.
Aftersun scooped three awards on the night. Charlotte Wells won two awards for Director Fiction and Writer Film/Television in partnership with Screen Scotland. Paul Mescal won the Actor Film category for his performance in the film.
Lucy Halliday received the award for Actress Film for her role in Blue Jean, her first on-screen performance. In Actor Television, Lewis Gribben took home the award for his performance in Somewhere Boy.
Lauren Lyle celebrated two wins for her performance in Karen Pirie, receiving the awards for Actress Television and the Audience Award for Favourite Scot on Screen. The Audience Award (in partnership with Screen Scotland) is the only category whose winner is voted for by members of the public.
Jono McLeod won Director Factual for My Old School.
Entertainment went to Frankie Boyle’s Farewell to the Monarchy. Features went to Designing the Hebrides.
A Long Winter received the Short Film & Animation award.
Three Mothers, Two Babies and A Scandal received the award for Factual Series. The Mysterious Mr Lagerfeld won Single Documentary. imagine…Douglas Stuart: Love, Hope and Grit won Specialist Factual.
Sound Engineer, Stuart Wilson received the Outstanding Contribution to Craft (In Memory of Robert McCann). One of BAFTA Scotland’s highest accolades, the award was presented to him by previous recipient Tommy Gormley.
Director Jon S Baird presented Shirley Henderson with the Outstanding Contribution to Film & Television, given in recognition of an exceptional standard of work across a long career. Further information, as previously announced, is found here.

The ceremony was streamed live on BAFTA YouTube channel and is available to watch here. A highlights programme will be broadcast on BBC Scotland at 22.00 this evening, and will also be available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
