Hong Kong, 20 May 2016: The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) hosted a masterclasses yesterday with Oscar-winning and multi-BAFTA-nominated British costume designer, Lindy Hemming at The Peninsula Hong Kong. This event was held in association with Swarovski, which has enjoyed a longstanding relationship with the designer. Earlier in the day, Lindy visited a local school where she met and spoke with students preparing for their performance at a local festival, supported by arts education organisation, Shakespeare4All.

In front of an audience of local industry professionals and university students, Lindy Hemming discussed some of the highlights of her career, including her creations for several Bond films, her long-standing collaboration with Mike Leigh, including the Oscar-winning Topsy-Turvy (1999), and her BAFTA-nominated work for Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994). She also discussed her iconic designs across numerous fantasy films, including two of the Lara Croft (Tomb Raider) adventures, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) and Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, including the BAFTA-nominated The Dark Knight (2008). Lindy Hemming also discussed her current work on Wonder Woman, directed by Patty Jenkins, which will premiere in Summer 2017.

Before the masterclass, BAFTA arranged for Lindy Hemming to visit the local Cotton Spinners Association Secondary School, where students performed an adaption of the Shakespeare play Macbeth ahead of their participation in a local schools festival, and Lindy led discussions with the children on costume and performance.

Lindy Hemming’s masterclass and school visit were part BAFTA’s aim to encourage creative collaboration between the UK and Asia by bringing together talented individuals from the film, television and games industries to share their skills and expertise.
