London, 13 August: BAFTA has announced today that Siobhan Reddy, Studio Director at Media Molecule, makers of the multi-BAFTA-winning LittleBigPlanet franchise, will deliver this year’s prestigious BAFTA Games Lecture. The event will take place at BAFTA’s headquarters, BAFTA 195 Piccadilly, on Thursday 4 October.
The BAFTA Games Lecture aims to deliver valuable insights into the creative minds of some of the world’s most compelling and esteemed games professionals, providing a platform for speakers to share their experiences, as well as their personal vision for the future of the industry. Previous speakers include Ilkka Paananen, Jade Raymond, Will Wright, Peter Molyneux, Hideo Kojima, Dr. Ray Muzyka, Greg Zeschuk, David Cage and Dan Hay.
Jo Twist, Chair of the BAFTA Games Committee said: “Siobhan Reddy is a force of nature in the games industry, having played a leading role in the creation of some of the world’s most innovative, genre-bending games, as well as being a public advocate for games and their role in our culture. Creative excellence and collaboration lie at the heart of Siobhan’s work and we look forward hearing her insights on what’s next in the world of game-making.”
Siobhan Reddy joined Media Molecule in 2006 from Criterion Games, where she worked on titles such as Burnout 3: Takedown and Burnout Legends. At Media Molecule she has overseen the hugely successful and innovative LittleBigPlanet game franchise, as well as the BAFTA-winning Tearaway for the PS Vita, and Tearaway Unfolded for the PlayStation 4. The studio is currently working on the hotly anticipated PS4 title Dreams.
Reddy sits on the advisory board for the international Game Developers Conference (GDC), held annually in San Francisco, and is a former member of the BAFTA Games Committee. She has received numerous awards and accolades including the Production Award at Microsoft Women in Gaming Awards in 2009 and the Innovator Award at the same awards in 2014. She was also named one of the 100 Most Powerful Women in the UK by BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, the Australian Woman of the Year in the UK by Qantas, installed in the UK Women in Game Hall of Fame, and named one of Fortune Magazine’s 10 Powerful Women in Gaming.
A strong advocate for diversity, Reddy believes that the games industry should be a place for all, as it is the quintessential medium of our time.
