London, Thursday 1 June 2023:  BAFTA confirms the eligibility criteria, voting rules and key dates for the BAFTA Games Awards 2024, with entry open from today. The BAFTA Games Awards celebrate the very best games of the past year and the talent who make them.

BAFTA members and specialist industry juries will vote across three rounds in these categories from November 2023 – March 2024.

The eligibility criteria, voting and campaigning rules are annually assessed to ensure they are robust, fair and evolve alongside the ever-changing industry landscape.

Key changes include:

  • Starting this year, BAFTA will publish the full longlist of games following the first round of member voting in December, enabling BAFTA to showcase a wider range of outstanding games of the past year and offer members and voting juries more time to play the longlisted games ahead of deciding nominations.
  • The nominations and winner in the Best Game and British Game categories will be voted for by all BAFTA Games members. Previously these categories were decided by industry juries.
  • ‘Original Property’ has been renamed ‘New Intellectual Property’ to better clarify the category’s purpose. The criteria remains unchanged.

The full rulebook and eligibility requirements for the 2024 awards can be found on BAFTA’s Awards entry website at awards.bafta.org/entry

Tara Saunders, Chair of BAFTA’s Games Committee, said: “I’m thrilled that entries are now open for the 2024 BAFTA Games Awards, one of the most prestigious international awards in our global games community. BAFTA’s awards are voted for by our members who are all experts from across the games industry and have a deep understanding of their craft. This year, we want to give them even more time to discover and play as many of the entered games as possible ahead of voting. With this in mind, we strongly encourage everyone to register their games in the Awards within 30 days of their release. We’re also publicly announcing the Longlist ahead of the next round of jury and member voting, giving us an opportunity to celebrate a wider range of brilliant games – I can’t wait for awards season kick off!”

Key dates, announced today are as follows:
1 June 2023 – Entries Open
9 November 2023 – Entries Close
14 December 2023 – Longlist revealed
7 March 2024 – Nominations Announced
Spring 2024 – Ceremony

Entry is open to all developers and publishers for games released between 10 December 2022 and 24 November 2023, with an entry deadline of 9 November.

Registering games into the BAFTA Games Awards as soon after release as possible maximises the time that BAFTA’s voting members – experts from across the games industry – have to discover and play a wide range of games ahead of their voting later this year, which helps level the awards playing field for all entrants.

Entry Information

BAFTA is calling for all developers to register games into the Awards within 30 days of a game’s release. This allows BAFTA members enough time to discover and play all games entered in the awards ahead of voting, levelling the playing field across a wide range of games.

Any developer, publisher or studio that has released a game since 10 December 2022 is encouraged to register it into the Awards by 30 June 2023 to benefit from half-price entry fees. The discounted rate is also available to entrants registering their games within 30 days of release in future.

Only basic details are required to register a game into the awards, within 30 days of release. Entry is half price (£175 +VAT) within that period. The standard entry fee is £350 +VAT. Full entry details will then need to be submitted by Friday 9 November to finalise the entry.
