A Greek composer, who was nominated three times for a BAFTA, for his original scores to Blade Runner, Missing (both 1982) and Chariots of Fire (1981), the latter also earning him an Oscar win. Across feature films, shorts, documentaries and television series, Vangelis notched up more than 80 composing credits, although his work, and in particular the evocative Chariots of Fire main theme, has been used in more than twice that. Other notable original film compositions include Crime and Passion (1976), The Bounty (1982), Bitter Moon, 1492: Conquest of Paradise (both 1992) and Alexander (2004).
