A British writer best known for his hard-hitting crime dramas Out (1978) and Fox (1980), Preston was able to bring his own shows to the screen after impressing penning episodes of The Sweeney (1975-1978). His other work included The Tyrant King (1968) and Billy the Kid and the Green Baize Vampire (1987).
