A legendary American comedian whose variety programmes Your Show Of Shows (1950-1954) and Caesar’s Hour (1945-1957) inspired and gave breaks to a generation of comedians including Woody Allen, Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks. His film credits included Brooks’ Silent Movie (1976) and the role of Coach Calhoun in Grease (1978)
