Robert Butler

An American director, who changed the face of US police procedural shows with his rough and ready direction of Hill Street Blues (1981). This won Robert Butler one of his three Emmys, the other two for The Blue Knight (1973). He also steered the look of a number of seminal US series, directing the pilots and first season episodes of the likes of Hogan’s Heroes (1965-1966), Batman, Star Trek (both 1966), Moonlighting (1985) and Remington Steel (1982-1987); he co-created the latter. He was presented with the DGA’s inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015.
