Mamoun Hassan

A Saudi Arabian producer, writer and editor, who moved to the UK as a teenager and became an influential figure in British cinema as the first head of production of the British Film Institute (1971-1974) and later managing director of the National Film Finance Corporation (1979-1984). Many British films were created through Hassan’s support, including Winstanley (1975), Gregory’s Girl, Babylon (both 1980), When the Wind Blows, Comrades (both 1986) and A Room With a View (1985). Uncredited on many productions, he only took three full producer credits, on No Surrender (1985), Machuca (2004) and The Good Life (2008), the latter two he also co-wrote.
