A British actress, who appeared on stage, television and film and will probably be remembered most for her role as Nurse Gladys in Open All Hours (1976-1985) and offshoot Still Open All Hours (2013-2016). She was more ubiquitous on British television, with roles in Oh No, It’s Selwyn Froggitt (1974-1978), Come Outside (1993-1997), Fat Friends (2002-2005), EastEnders (2006-2016), and was nominated for a BAFTA for her performance as Violet Carson/Ena Sharples in one-shot drama The Road to Coronation Street (2010). She also had roles in feature films Yentl (1983), Scoop (2006) and, most recently, Dream Horse (2020).
