An American author, essayist and screenwriter, who came to prominence in the 1960s and earned international acclaim for his Pulitzer Prize-winning Lonesome Dove series (1985-1997). He won two BAFTAs, the first for Screenplay for 1973’s The Last Picture Show, based on his own novel, with Peter Bogdanovich, which was also Oscar nominated. He also won Adapted Screenplay for Brokeback Mountain in 2006, with Diana Ossana, which also won him an Oscar and Golden Globe.
