A British writer, actress and director, who was nominated for a BAFTA multiple times, with one win to her name, the Dennis Potter Award in 1998. Kay Mellor’s other nominations were for Band of Gold (1995-1997), Some Kind of Life (1996), twice for Playing the Field (1999-2002) and Fat Friends (2000-2004). A prolific writer, her work was known for its realistic characters, authentic dialogue and dry humour, despite often contentious storylines and grim settings. Other work included Children’s Ward (1990-1991), Just Us (1992-1994), The Chase (2006-2007), The Syndicate (2012-2021), In the Club (2014-2016) and Girlfriends (2018).
