A British director and producer whose career began making factual programmes for television, Gold moved into fiction and directed films including Aces High (1976) and Goodnight, Mister Tom (1998). He won television BAFTAs for Death in the Morning (1964) The World of Coppard (1967) and Stocker’s Copper (1972).
