A Greek actress, who enjoyed film success in both her home country, Italy and the US. Papas’ best known homegrown work was probably the Euripides trilogy – Electra (1962), The Trojan Women (1971) and Iphigenia (1976) – while her Hollywood career highlight was The Guns of Navarone (1961). Other notable film works included Attila (1954), Zorba the Greek (1964), We Still Kill the Old Way (1967), Z, Anne of the Thousand Days (both 1969), Don’t Torture a Duckling (1972), Chronicle of a Death Foretold (1987), Captain Corelli’s Mandolin (2001) and A Talking Picture (2003).
