A British actor, who had an extensive career working in both Welsh and English-language films and television series. Dafydd Hywel was nominated for a BAFTA Cymru Award in 1994 for children’s programme Blodeuwedd: Y Panto, but he’s probably best known for his roles on Pobol y Cwm (1976-1984) and Stella (2012-2017). Other notable Welsh series included Miri Mawr (1972-1978), I Fro Breuddwydion (1987), Y Pris (2007), Pen Talar (2010) and Un Bore Mercher (Keeping Faith, 2017). In English, he landed roles in Taff Acre (1981), The Bill (1987, 1998, 1999), Richard Burton’s Christmas Story (1991), Peak Practice (2000), The Indian Doctor (2010-2013), Miss Peregerine’s Home for Peculiar Children (2016) and The Crown (2019). He was also chief executive of Cwmni Mega, which produced Welsh language pantomimes.
