The trusted face of American broadcast news for almost 40 years, Cronkite had been a distinguished foreign correspondent since the Second World War. The stories he covered, and became associated with, as a news anchor include the Kennedy assassination, the notorious Tet Offensive in Vietnam and the 1969 moon landing.
