A Nigerian filmmaker and writer, who made an immediate impact with his directorial debut, Half of a Yellow Sun (2013), having also written the screenplay based on Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel. Bandele followed this feature with Fifty (2015), the eight episode strong Shuga (2009), two-part mini-series Blood Sisters (2022) and feature film Elisin Oba: The King’s Horseman (2022). Bandele relocated to the UK in 1990 and soon became a published author. Over the following years, he became a celebrated playwright and also wrote the screenplay for Not Even God is Wise Enough (1993), written for the BBC's Screenplay series, before deciding to write and direct his own work.
