(She/Her)

Georgina’s breakthrough credit is the scripted television series Pop Paper City.

Given the nature of her 3D children’s craft adventure series, Pop Paper City, it is unsurprising to learn that it was such childhood TV shows as Blue Peter and Art Attack that played a pivotal role in Georgina Hurcombe choosing her future career. One particular childhood memory stands out: building Blue Peter’s version of Tracy Island (Thunderbirds) with her father. It may have resembled more of a papier-mâché ‘blob’ than an island, but she also felt a real sense of accomplishment finishing it.

It’s this same sense of wonder and creativity that Pop Paper City – the 3D animated series she created, produced and directed from her own Dorset studio – tries to instil in its young audience. The series aims to foster creativity in the young, building cherished childhood and family memories that Georgina hopes might inspire the next generation to “get crafty”.

With its debut 52 x 11″ minute episode season complete and airing on Channel 5’s Milkshake!, as well as successful distribution in more than 178 territories by Aardman, Georgina is now building an extended Pop Paper City universe, with licensing and merchandise, publishing, games and a feature film all in progress.

In their own words…

Pop Paper City has been such a journey for me, stepping into the children’s TV space for the first time. My background spans a range of productions, from TV adverts to documentaries, but creating something for young audiences felt both challenging and inspiring in new ways. I wanted to capture that feeling of hands-on creativity I remember from my own childhood, and it’s been a joy to see that resonate with kids around the world. This past year feels like a real breakthrough, and I’m deeply grateful to see Pop Paper City and my journey recognised by BAFTA. I’m truly excited for the next adventure!”
