Red Carpet Interview with BAFTA Los Angeles

Interviewer: Zoe Ball

ZOE BALL:  Two very important people from BAFTA with us now.  Would you like to introduce yourselves to our wonderful viewers?

CHANTAL:  Zoe, I am Chantal and I am part of BAFTA Team Los Angeles.

ZOE BALL:  Lucky you.

MATTHEW:  And I'm Matthew and I'm the other part of BAFTA Team Los Angeles.

Q. Obviously we have BAFTA here doing incredible work, also in New York.  What happens in Los Angeles?  What projects have you been doing?  I heard about a tea party.

MATTHEW:  We have very good tea parties out there.  We do a fantastic tea party just before the Golden Globes, another one just before the Emmies and we have our own BAFTA Britannia awards, the British Academy Britannia Awards which are honours we give out from BAFTA Los Angeles to wonderful people.

Q. Do you do similar work to over here?  Do you have screenings?  Do you have chats with film directors and actors?

CHANTALLE:  Absolutely, about 20 per cent of all BAFTA members live and work in Southern California, so we're there to look after them, make sure that they're up to speed with all the screenings, that they get to know exactly what is going on, which movies are out there and that's very much part of what we are there to do: look after the local membership.

Q. Which films have moved you the most this year, would you say?

MATTHEW:  Moved me the most?  I think obviously most of our members have a British sensibility to them so obviously there's a great contingent of British films this year.  We have to remain impartial

Q. Always impartial?

MATTHEW:  l have to say there's a lot of strong contenders there.

Q. I know you have a list in your pocket.  Good luck tonight.  It's a fantastic event, an amazing list of people coming tonight.

CHANTALLE:  We're incredibly lucky that people have come from Los Angeles.

Q. And so many categories are so incredibly close to call?

CHANTALLE:  Way too close.

Q. Will it be Leo's year?  We will find out.

CHANTALLE:  We'll see.

Q. Have a wonderful night.  Thank you for talking to us.
