SCOTT BASSETT: Thank you very much.
AYSHA RAFAELE: Thank you so much, BAFTA. We are honoured to be in such talented company tonight, particularly with the brilliant late great Tim Pigott‑Smith.
Thank you to everyone in our documentary unit at BBC Studios and to our wonderful cast, Abigail, Nico, Sally, Chenel, Rhys, many others; to our fabulous writer, who is on stage with me tonight, Nick Leather; our producer, Scott Bassett; Marco Crivellari; Paul Andrew Williams, our director.
More than anything else, I would like to say a big thank you to Robert Maltby and to Sylvia Lancaster, who are in the audience, Sophie’s mum, for their bravery and their courage in allowing us to tell this devastating story.
Sadly, since Sophie’s death, hate crime in this country has continued to rise and rise, and is continuing to rise. It’s our duty and our privilege as filmmakers to not look away from the dark corners in our society.
Thank you to Damian Kavanagh at BBC Three and to Danny Horan for allowing us to shine a light on this most terrible of crimes. Thank you.
