BAFTA Cymru Announces The Winners Of The 2011 British Academy Cymru Awards

Sian Williams and Jason Mohammad host the British Academy Cymru Awards in 2011, which saw 26 programme, craft and performance categories awarded.

• BBC's Sherlock sweeps 5 awards
• Stuart Brennan is Best Actor, Mali Harries is Best Actress
• Gareth Gwenlan wins Lifetime's Achievement Award

In a glittering ceremony tonight (Sunday) at Wales Millennium Centre to mark its 20th annual British Academy Cymru Awards, BAFTA in Wales celebrated the best of the nation's television, film and interactive industry. Sian Williams and Jason Mohammad hosted the ceremony which saw 26 programme, craft and performance categories in all being awarded.

BBC's Sherlock swept the board winning 5 categories in all, including Best Television Drama, Director: Fiction (Euros Lyn), Production Design, Hair & Make-Up and Photography: Fiction.

The Best Actor Award went to Stuart Brennan, who spent 5 years in training for his role as the Welsh boxer Howard Winstone, in Risen: The Howard Winstone Story. Mali Harries won The Best Actress for her role in The Indian Doctor (Rondo for BBC). Wedi 7's Angharad Mair was awarded Best Presenter.

The comedian Rhod Gilbert's Work Experience for BBC Wales won best Factual Series for his trials with the Bin Men. In a fitting tribute to the popular actress, the children's series, The Sarah Jane Adventures - starring the late Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane, won Best Children"s Programme.

Television comedy producer, Gareth Gwenlan, received BAFTA in Wales' Lifetime Achievement Award for his long and rich contribution to the British and Welsh television industry. The Hollywood actor from Cardiff, Matthew Rhys, was also honoured with The Sian Phillips Award. BBC Wales' Snowdonia 1890 was given the Gwyn Alf Williams Award.

BBC Cymru Wales productions took 11 out of the 26 Awards. Independent production company Rondo Media won Awards in 4 categories, closely followed by Fiction Factory with 3 Awards. S4C programmes received Awards in 8 categories.
