Paul Wheeler

Cameraman, Director of Photography

A British cameraman and director of photography, who worked mostly in television drama over a career spanning almost 50 years. He joined the BBC at the age of 18 as a trainee projectionist, before moving over to hold the camera himself a year later. He shot for such series as Blue Peter (1973-1979), King Cinder (1977), Fawlty Towers (1979), Pride and Prejudice (1980), Bergerac (1983-1985), The Marksman (1987) and Uncle Silas (1989). He decided to go freelance in 1990 and began working on Inspector Morse (1990-1991), which earned him two BAFTA nominations. Wheeler also held teaching posts at the National Film and Television School and Royal College of Art and wrote several technical books about cinematography.
