Husban’s breakthrough project is the game Rogue Eclipse.
A love and fondness for film, games and TV have all contributed to making Husban the game developer and director he is today. Providing constant inspiration as he seeks to create games that induce the “same spark of joy” he felt as a child.
From childhood sketches inspired by Zelda, Halo and Star Wars; to memories of playing independent titles such as Thomas Was Alone, Nuclear Throne and Spelunky, Husban has had many sources of inspiration to draw upon while pursuing his career in the games industry. Now with breakthrough project Rogue Eclipse the impact of these early influences, combined with his vivid recollections of formative gaming experiences shared with siblings and friends as a child; the privilege of meeting and collaborating with industry heroes; and forging industry friendships have all come to the fore. With the developer saying his spaceflight action shooter game, set in a universe inspired by Arabesque Futurism, “has been entirely shaped” by his journey so far and is ” a love letter to a genre that is very beloved to my childhood and an outlet I got to pour my love of science fiction into.”
In his own words…
“I’m continually amazed by what this medium continues to deliver, and it has unquestionably inspired me to push myself further to get to this point. I’m incredibly excited to be a part of the BAFTA Breakthrough programme and looking forward to the opportunity to be able to learn, develop as well support other creatives.
“This project was an outlet that allowed me to pour in everything that inspired me growing up. Whether it be the games I played, the artists I saw, the team I collaborated with, the media I enjoyed as well as my own cultural roots. The ultimate intention is trying to induce that same spark of joy that was imparted to me as a child as a result of this medium; with Rogue Eclipse being in the absolute pursuit of that emotional essence that I first felt when I picked up a controller.”
