Hollie’s breakthrough project is the film THE CEREMONY.
A thoughtful and determined storyteller who backs her own instincts, Hollie is passionate about “authentic but ambitious stories that travel”. She refuses to compromise on what she sets out to achieve and draws on experience gained over a decade working prolifically across theatre, independent music videos and short films that have garnered awards and selections at top tier international festivals. It’s this work ethic, resourcefulness and determination that have defined her approach as a producer, creating work against considerable financial and practical odds.
Growing up in Grimsby, Hollie’s taste was first informed by an era of slightly strange, dark children’s films like Neverending Story, Drop Dead Fred and Labyrinth, before discovering independent cinema on the more underground racks of the video shop through films like Welcome to the Dollhouse, Elephant and The Orphanage. She places value on building lasting relationships with directors developing a close creative shorthand which has helped shape her own distinctive voice as a producer, leading to her breakthrough independent feature THE CEREMONY. It was a project made possible through Hollie’s ingenuity, persistence and ability to make ambitious filmmaking work with limited resources. Despite all the constraints of a genuinely independent microbudget debut, the film won the Sean Connery prize at Edinburgh International Film Festival, and has already received wide acclaim including a BAFTA nomination for Outstanding Debut.
In her own words…
” If you have a great story, performances and team you don’t need bells and whistles to make something cinematic…
“I care deeply about telling authentic but ambitious stories that travel, but I want the films I produce to be accessible and entertaining and a bit out of the box. It’s a mix of those films that inspired me growing up – with layers of light and dark in equal measure. I love the Ken Russell approach – great characters, great stories, with a little bit of risk and madness to create a film that doesn’t quite fit the mould, to create something original and unexpected.”
