Emma Barua is a junior hair and makeup artist from Brighton, specialising in film and television. She is awarded the BAFTA Reuben Scholarship to support her completion of the Intensive SFX, Hair & Makeup Course at the Christine Blundell Makeup Academy for Film & Television.
After earning a Distinction in her Extended Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Media Hair and Makeup, Emma began her career through the ScreenSkills Trainee Programme. She worked under BAFTA-nominated designer Naomi Donne on Allelujah! and later joined the main team on the feature film Blitz. She also assisted prosthetics artist Susie Redfern on HBO’s The Franchise, contributing to complex prosthetic character applications.
As a neurodivergent woman of colour, Emma is passionate about fostering inclusion and representation within the industry, and committed to using this opportunity to hone her technical skills, with guidance from the best in the field, to build a sustainable and meaningful career in film and television.
She said: “I am deeply honoured to have been awarded the BAFTA Scholarship to continue my training at CBMA. This scholarship gives me an invaluable opportunity to further develop my skills and artistry, and I am profoundly grateful to BAFTA for investing in my growth as a hair and makeup artist. I am also thankful for the industry professionals who have guided me so far. Working alongside them has been an inspiring and invaluable experience.”
