BAFTA New York is a nonprofit membership organization providing a lively environment in which film and television professionals in New York can meet and exchange information and ideas about their sister industries in the UK.
Originally launched in February 1996 as BAFTA East Coast, the organization continues the British Academy’s tradition of excellence by recognizing and promoting the achievements of the British film and television industry in New York and throughout the Eastern United States.
An extensive roster of feature film, television, and documentary screenings, panel discussions, premieres, and co-produced events with other established organizations in the film and television industry have propelled BAFTA in New York through over a decade of increasingly ambitious activities including an annual Film Awards viewing party with a live satellite feed from London to New York
There are 300 Full Members of BAFTA in New York who are eligible to vote for the prestigious EE British Academy Film Awards . We also have Professional Members who are highly qualified in the field of Film and Television, Associate Members who are just starting out in the business and Student members who hope to join us one day in the industry. There are also plans to expand the membership and increase its visibility beyond the metropolitan New York area.
In addition to the organization’s film and television events, BAFTA in New York continues to forge alliances with the corporate and diplomatic communities in New York and Washington, DC. Increased corporate sponsorship for our activities is actively being sought and Educational programs are also being developed.
