A BAFTA winner for Most Promising Newcomer after Trouble In Store (1953), Wisdom evoked Chaplin for his physical comedy and starred in a succession of domestic hits including The Square Peg (1959) and The Bulldog Breed (1960). Later work included an acclaimed performance in the television play Going Gently (1981).
