A former chief programme executive with Associated-Rediffusion, Windlesham also served as managing director with independent television companies Grampian (1967-70) and ATV (1974-81). In addition to fulfilling various roles in Edward Heath’s Conservative government, he later co-chaired a masterly enquiry into the controversial Thames TV documentary Death on the Rock (1989).
