Beginning her career as a dancer and actress, van der Rohe turned to making documentaries in the late 1960s. She found international, award-winning success recounting stories of creative talents such as her father, the renowned architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, as well as the artists Klee and Kandinsky.
