A ubiquitous presence on British television, Stoney made his debut in the BBC production of The Gentle Gunman (1950). Over the years he had guest roles in many popular series, notably Doctor Who (1965, 1968), The Prisoner (1967) and Inspector Morse (1993). His films, though rare, include The Dresser (1983).
