A BBC executive who rose through the ranks to the position of Deputy Director General, Singer oversaw the inception of such programmes as Tomorrow's World (1965), Civilisation (1969) and The Ascent Of Man (1973). He survived an abrupt departure from the corporation to develop a new career in independent production.
