A versatile screenwriter who frequently collaborated with his wife, Ravetch and Harriet Frank Jr. found success with their adaptation of a William Faulkner novel, which became The Long, Hot Summer (1958). They found further success with Hud (1963), Hombre (1967), The Cowboys (1972) and the award winning Norma Rae (1978).
