A BAFTA winner for his work on Brideshead Revisited (1981), Phillips joined Granada as a production designer in 1959. In a long and illustrious career he won further acclaim for his work on productions of Kipps (1960) , War and Peace (1963) and Cat On A Hot Tin Roof (1976).
