Philip French OBE

A respected, revered and influential British film critic, French wrote seven books and was the Observer’s chief film critic from 1978 until he retired upon his 80th birthday in 2013. He was known for his humour, fairness and wide-ranging knowledge and passion for the arts, which never failed to come across in his elegant prose.
