A noted Palestinian-Israeli actor, Mer-Khamis was familiar to international audiences for his work in such films as The Little Drummer Girl (1984) and Miral (2010). But his enduring legacy was as artistic director of the Freedom Theatre on the West Bank, which sought to empower Palestinian youth through artistic endeavour.
