Although Orfeu Negro (1958) – a Brazilian take on the Greek legend of Orpheus and Eurydice – won the Palme D’Or at Cannes, star Mello appeared in only a handful of other films. These included Os Vencidos (1963), Rata De puerto (1963) O Santo Módico (1964) and O Negrinho De Pastoreio (1973).
