A former president of the American Academy and chairman of the Screen Actors Guild, Malden shone in movies including A Streetcar Named Desire (1951), On The Waterfront (1954), Baby Doll (1956) One-Eyed Jacks (1961) and Patton (1970). On television he was best known for The Streets of San Francisco (1972-77).
