Ted Lowe

1 November 1920 - 1 May 2011

Snooker Commentator

With his muted commentary style underlined by the nickname ‘Whispering’, Lowe was the voice of snooker on the BBC and made his broadcasting debut in 1946. He helped bring the game to a wider audience with Pot Black (1969-84) and was behind the microphone for televised world championships from 1978.
