A trusted and admired foreign correspondent in the 1960s, Kyle reported on major stories around the globe with great distinction for the BBC's Tonight programme. He later devoted himself to the promotion of international issues with Chatham House and in 1991 published a widely acclaimed history of the Suez crisis.
